1300 people regain their eyesight in Gariaband district

Gariaband: The Health Department is continuously making efforts to free Gariaband district from cataract blindness. Giving information in this regard, Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Gargi Yadu Pal said that survey work is being done continuously by eye assistant officers and field health workers in rural areas. Through which the identified patients of cataract and other eye diseases are sent to the district hospital for treatment and they are given free treatment and cataract operation. Generally, after the age of 40, the problem of vision impairment and cataract starts.

Under the National Blindness and Low Vision Control Program, last year 2023-24, 25 thousand 189 out-patients of the district were examined and treated from April 2023 to March 2024. Out of which cataract operation has been done on 1276 cataract patients and successful operation has been done on 24 other eye patients. Eye specialist Dr. T.C. posted in District Hospital Gariaband. Patre performs free eye operations every Tuesday in the district hospital. Eye testing has been done in 257 pre-secondary schools of the district, in which 18 thousand 599 students got the benefit of eye testing, 425 students with visual impairment have been provided free power glasses by the District Health Committee.

Similarly, 1600 elderly people in the district have been provided free power glasses for reading and writing if they are found to have visual impairment after eye test. NGO for cataract operation in the year 2023-24. Help of Usha Foundation Raipur was also taken. The health department team including District Nodal Officer Dr. T.C. Patre, Senior Eye Assistant Officer Suvinay Bose, Shesh Narayan Patra, Purshottam Nirmalkar, Yoganand Chakradhari are continuously making efforts to make the district a cataract-free district in the coming year.
